Opinion

On Tuesday, June 24th, Miami Dade College (MDC) hosted a successful convening of leaders from across South Florida’s business, education, healthcare, and government sectors to explore the future of workforce development in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and digital trust technologies.

The event spotlighted MDC’s innovative partnership with HCA Healthcare and the Velocity Network Foundation through VNF Member, Beyond Academics—a collaboration that produced a working prototype leveraging AI and blockchain to issue secure, verifiable learner records. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with this breakthrough model and examine how it could reshape the education-to-employment pipeline.

Much of the discussion centered around understanding the Velocity Network—its role as a trust layer for verifiable credentials and its growing adoption by employers seeking to streamline hiring and compliance processes. HCA Healthcare’s early adoption of the technology positioned it as a clear leader in healthcare innovation, demonstrating how verifiable credentials can reduce onboarding time, combat résumé fraud, and unlock new efficiencies in talent acquisition.

For Miami Dade College, the event was also a chance to showcase its forward-thinking approach to AI integration in education and reaffirm its commitment to building a connected, skills-based talent ecosystem. A lively roundtable discussion surfaced valuable insights and perspectives from local employers, educators, and public officials, all focused on how to scale these solutions across South Florida’s diverse economy.

This event marked an important step in aligning the region’s education and employment systems—and in shaping a future where learners and workers can own and share their credentials securely, seamlessly, and with confidence.
